why you should try reiki today
If you can’t already tell, spiritual shit is my jam. I’m into meditation, tarot cards, astrology, the law of attraction, and anything else that mainstream society considers “woo woo.” Along this vein, I am a huge fan of reiki, and part of my new year resolution is to go every 3 months... or more if I can.
If you’ve never heard of reiki (and the majority of people haven’t), you’ve come to the right place. Reiki is not a massage and it’s not “fortune telling.” It’s energy work, and it’s downright amazing. Basically, a reiki master spends time shifting, shaping, harnessing, or helping you release your body’s energy. It leaves you feeling balanced, calm, and in my experience, almost reborn. Reiki can be done in person or virtually and with or without physical touch, so finding someone perfectly fit for your needs is a walk in the park.
When I met Jamie last year, I was in serious need of some energy work. I felt absolutely off balance in both my body and my life (hello Covid). I woke up each morning feeling chaotic. The opposite of grounded. I meditated and journaled, exercised and went to therapy, but these practices that usually helped calm my anxieties simply weren’t working.
The lightbulb went off during a particularly stressful day at work before the world shut down, and after a few google searches, I found Jamie.
Five minutes into our session, Jamie said, “Woah, what’s going on girl? Your energy is all over the place.” I laughed to keep from crying, and let her do her thing. The hour went by in a flash. Jamie worked on each part of my body, gave me self-care homework, and I left feeling like a new human. My body felt light as a feather, my mind like a still pond. I was so relaxed I forgot to tip her (sorry Jamie!), but Venmo saved the day there.
All I can say is... if you’re skeptical, I get it, but it can’t hurt to try. You might just find what you’ve been looking for. I sure did.
